Activities of the Upazila Parishad

Preparation of five-year and various long-term development plans.
Implementation of programs transferred from various government departments to the council and supervision and coordination of those departments’ activities.
Construction, repair, and maintenance of roads connecting different unions.
Adoption and implementation of micro-irrigation projects by the Upazila Parishad following government directives to ensure optimal use of underground water resources.
Provision of public health, nutrition, and family planning services.
Improvement of sanitation and sewage disposal systems and provision of safe drinking water supply.
Encouragement and support for expanding education at the Upazila level.
Supervision of activities and support to institutions involved in secondary and madrasa education to improve quality.
Support and coordination of activities of cooperatives and private voluntary organizations.
Implementation of programs for women, children, social welfare, and forest resources development.
Implementation of programs for agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and forest resources development.
Discussion of law and order situation at the Upazila level and activities of the police department, with regular reports to higher authorities.
Initiation and implementation of self-employment schemes and poverty alleviation, and providing necessary support to government schemes in this regard.
Coordination, supervision, and provision of necessary support for the development activities of unions.
Raising public opinion and implementing other preventive activities against crimes such as violence against women and children.
Raising awareness and taking preventive activities against crimes like terrorism, theft, dacoity, smuggling, and drug abuse.
Activities for environmental protection and development, including social forestry.
All matters related to the Upazila Parishad fund.
Granting authority for expenditures outside the council fund.
Proposals for levying taxes, rates, tolls, and fees.
Auditing of Upazila Parishad expenditures.
Processing various contracts for project implementation.
Formation of various committees and sub-committees.
Review of disaster relief and rehabilitation activities at the Upazila level.
Other tasks assigned periodically by the government.
